My work will be featured throughout August at the Red Tree Gallery on Pender Island. I have started working in mixed media and will be showing 3-dimensional pieces featuring Pender Island pebbles and shells, as well as photographs.
"Night Dance" was juried into the Sooke Fine Arts Show running from July 26th through August 5th in Sooke on Vancouver Island.
The scattered cloud cover and remaining blue in the evening sky allowed this glimpse of the almost-full "super moon" on Saturday, the day before the moon fills out to its maximum size.
Some Pender Islanders dined on neighbouring Mayne Island last week, and visited the lovely Japanese Garden prior to dinner. The garden is beautiful at any time of year, and sublime in late spring. The reds and greens and designs of pond lily leaves caught my eye, as did the purple iris 'framed' by pink in the second image below.
Choosing another tulip image for this posting was entirely coincidental. These petals with their sensuous colours and curves fell from their stems and begged to be noticed. I chose to put them outdoors on my railing to highlight the beauty of their translucence.
Beyond their best, but
The delicate pink tulips on my table are definitely fading and falling, but compelling nonetheless. Here I try to capture their graceful lines and paper textures even though they're almost beyond their tulip identity.
Easter was early this year - at the end of March. Beautiful winter sunrises ushered in sudden spring warmth - so welcome.
Hopefully we'll only need paper umbrellas from now on!
A few days ago, the winter sun drew me outdoors to hike the bluffs to gain an expansive overview of the Saanich Peninsula, Victoria in the distance, Boundary Pass, Haro Strait, and the San Juan Islands. I was not the only one reveling in the sunshine. Two ravens soared and dipped and swooped in unison, flying apart and coming back together over and over and over in the buoyant updrafts. They seemed to be courting, and it did feel like spring. The image below shows them above the ocean and then cropped for a closer look at the flirting.
Clear winter days and fewer leaves allow glimpses of the setting sun that are not possible in summer. The orange sky contrasts with the temperature and promises the welcome warmth to come - but not yet!
At the Red Tree Gallery we have just launched our latest show entitled Coastal Colours. This is my submission - to me this image epitomizes the coast and the colours of BC.
